Method
How a A-Level Physics lesson actually runs
Concepts before equations
The formula sheet is provided in the exam. What isn't provided is knowing which relationship applies and why, so that's where the lesson time goes.
Your board's question style
AQA, Edexcel, OCR and CAIE phrase things differently and reward different structures in extended answers. We work from your board's papers throughout.
Required practicals as exam content
The practicals are examined on the written papers, and the questions are predictable. We treat them as a finite, learnable set of marks rather than as lab work.
Where students get stuck
Required practicals are free marks most students drop
Every board examines the required practicals in the written papers, and the question types recur year after year: identify the independent and control variables, explain the dominant source of uncertainty, justify why a particular graph was plotted, calculate a percentage uncertainty. Students who genuinely did the experiment in class still lose these marks, because they revised the theory and not the method.
How we fix it
We work through each required practical as an exam question rather than as a lab write-up. What would you vary, what must be held constant, why does plotting this against that linearise the relationship, and where does most of the uncertainty actually come from? It is a small and finite set of skills, it reappears every single year, and it is some of the most reliably recoverable marks on the paper.
Your plan
A term-long plan for A-Level Physics
Whether you're starting Year 12 or heading into final exams, the sequence is the same: secure the mechanics, then build outward, then spend the last stretch on technique.
- 1
Diagnostic against your specification
We establish your board and where your class has reached, then use a past paper to find whether marks are going to content, to maths, or to extended-answer technique.
- 2
Mechanics and materials
Forces, moments, energy and momentum. This underpins most of the rest of the course, and gaps here surface repeatedly later.
- 3
Electricity, fields and waves
The topics students most often describe as not clicking, rebuilt from physical reasoning rather than from equation-matching.
- 4
Nuclear, thermal and further topics
Whatever your specification includes, worked at exam depth with your board's phrasing.
- 5
Practicals and uncertainty drill
Every required practical treated as a written-paper question, plus percentage uncertainty, error bars and graph-gradient interpretation.
- 6
Full timed papers
Complete papers under exam conditions, with the long six-mark answers marked against the official level-of-response criteria.

“Physics has a reputation it doesn't deserve. Taught properly, it's the most intuitive subject on your timetable.”
A-Level Physics students, in their words.
Knowledgeable and patient tutor
“I had been concerned about physics, but the moment I took lessons with Qamar it helped me immensely. He's patient and explains things on par with my level, helping me understand the concepts on a deeper level. As a bonus, he remembers our past lessons well and writes organized notes that are easy to review.”
